END OF SPRING PAJAMA DAY!  This Friday, May 29th will be our end of Spring PAJAMA DAY!  I want to honor all the men and women on the front-line of this Covid-19 war by having a superhero theme!  Children can wear superhero or community helper costumes, pajamas, etc. and may bring a superhero toy or book to share.  The children are going to draw a picture of their favorite superhero or community helper and we will take a picture of their artwork and post on facebook with a thank you to all the front-line essential helpers.

ANNUAL PAID WEEK OF VACATION:  We will be closed for our Annual Week of Paid Vacation from Friday, June 26th through Friday, July 3rd.  This includes five vacation days and one Holiday (July 4th).

UPDATE ON GRANTS:  We haven't heard anything yet about the grants or when to expect the funds except that they have received our application, and it could take till the end of this month before the funds are available, and then they will have to get our deposit info, etc.  So, I hope by the 1st and 2nd week in June, we will know more.  I will let everyone know as soon as I hear anything!

COVID-19 ALERT!!!  See our Facebook Page for detailed information about our Policies and Procedures for protecting and keeping our children and teachers healthy and safe.  We are now only keeping essential workers children.  If you are currently keeping your kids out, please continue with your normal payments.  The State Department has provided grants to cover your childcare costs, so I am in the process of applying and hopefully will be able to reimburse you for your time out of school/daycare.  We appreciate you all helping us.  Our numbers have been down below 7 almost everyday which keeps our risk of getting the virus down a lot plus affords me the time to go get our supplies/groceries early in the am so that we can stay open.  Also the empty spots are about to be filled with essential workers placed with us through the city of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.  I have specifically asked them not to send us children of medical professionals/workers since that would definitely put us at a much higher risk.  Also, I preferred ages 3-5 with possible Kindergartners, but not any older just because it might overwhelm our little ones and possibly expose them to some negative influences that we would prefer not to happen.

EASTER PARTY!!!  Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Party will be this Thursday.  Christina and I decided to host it just to lessen the exposure to the virus by people bringing items in the daycare.  (Might be overkill...but we don't mind)  Christina is making a bunny cake and we will have a few other goodies plus prizes for the Easter Egg Hunt.  You do not need to send anything except a basket for them to hunt eggs!  We have dozens of eggs filled with goodies for the hunt.

WARM WEATHER REMINDER:  As Spring approaches and the weather warms up, remember to change out the extra clothes in your child's cubby to more suitable clothing (and check sizes---they grow out of them quickly).  Also, we will be playing outside a lot more as the weather improves, so please let your child wear tennis shoes to school everyday so they can run without hindrance.  You would not believe how many times children will trip outside when running in shoes not made for running.  Also, NO BOOTS PLEASE!!!  If your child wants to wear his/her rain boots or other boots to school, please be sure to bring tennis shoes to change into.  Boots just don't work for outside play.

PLAYHOUSE PLAYYARD IS OPEN!!  The PLAYYARD is finally open and the kids had such a fun time last week when the weather was nice.  Thanks so much for your patience during the wait. Since we are going outside most days, please make sure they have proper clothing for outdoor play and wear their play tennis shoes that would be okay to get dirty.  WE ARE SOOOOOO EXCITED to have our playyard back.  It is a little plain-jane right now, but it will be evolving into something really cool over the next year.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY FIRE & RESCUE will be visiting our children on Friday, November 1st at 9:00 am.  We would love any parent volunteers who could come and help that morning (if we have at least one other adult, then our youngest preschoolers could participate too...otherwise it will have to be just for older 2's through 5 year olds since the other teacher has to remain in the building with the infants).

NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION MONTH!  October is National Fire Prevention Month.  In addition to the regular curriculum, the children will also be learning about fire safety and will be visited by our County Fire Department.  This is a good time to develop (if you haven't already done so) an evacuation plan and fire safety plan with your family.  Practice your plan frequently (at least once a season) with your child(ren).  Check out the ChildCare Resources link on this website and click on the webpage "Home Fire Drill Resources for Parents" (www.homefiredrill.org/) for some ideas and helpful tools to develop your home plan.

HALLOWEEN PARTY!  Thursday, October 31st will be our Halloween Party Day.  The children will play Halloween games and have a pretend "trick-or-treat," (in order to prepare for that evening's REAL deal) in the morning and have the party food, etc. during their scheduled snack time in the afternoon.  Please allow them to wear a costume (nothing dark or scary please) that day and please bring a bag of treats (candy or toys) that your child can hand out during our pretend "trick-or-treat."  Thank you to Mrs. Reba Kemp (Gunner's Mom) who will be hosting the party this year.  Feel free to contact her (FB) if you would like to contribute or send something for the party.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN!  Nathanael Nutt is turning two on September 29th.  We are celebrating it this Friday!  Congratulations Nathan!

News Posted September 15, 2019:

THANKS FOR AN AWESOME PAJAMA DAY EVERYONE!  The kids had a lot of fun on Friday.  They shared lots of beach-themed books.  We had many toys visiting for the day:  manatee, whale, a Sea Gull, Nemo and Dory, Fred the Frog, Beach Balls, and a Pail with Sand Tools.  I was very proud of all the kids for sharing...we had very little trouble with sharing.  Good Job kids and parents!  Thanks also to Reba Kemp (Gunner's mom) for sharing Oreos for the ice cream sundae party.

PRAYER REQUESTS!  Dylan's mom had surgery on Friday and came through very well.  Please keep her (Nicole) in your prayers as she continues to recover and heal.  We pray that she will heal quickly and will need no further surgeries in the future.

PLAYGROUND COMING SOON!  The fence is almost finished!  Thanks everyone for your continued patience.  All we have left to do is some clean up, aerating and fertilizing the soil, planting grass, and putting the toys back in.  I will be working on the playground layout over the next year trying to find ways to break-up the playground into various play spaces (a sound garden, sunflower house-Spring and Summer, a possible dry-creek bed with a small bridge, raised planters, possible fairy garden, etc.)  I have lots of ideas but no funds, so it will take me some time to save for it and/or win a grant!

WELCOME TO OUR TWO NEWEST LITTLE MEMBERS!!!  Tyler Pemberton (6 wks) and Cameron Morefield (8 wks) joined our playhouse this past week.  ADORABLE!!!  That's all I have to say about them.  Well, you just have to see for yourself!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR PRAYERS!  God showed up and showed out and answered our prayers!  The pathologist sayed "NO CANCER!"  My surgery went well and I will be back in the playhouse full-time this week.

END OF SUMMER PAJAMA DAY RESCHEDULED!  Pajama day will be this Friday, September 13.  We are going to make it beached themed since some of our playhouse friends vacationed at the beach this summer.  Students can wear their pajamas to school and bring their favorite beach/vacation book to share with friends (books about sharks, oceans, etc. are great too) and/or a stuffed animal that might live in ocean or on the beach.  We will end the day making and eating ice cream sundaes at snack time.  The children will choose a topping to contribute out of a list and I will provide the ice cream.  I will let you know what topping to bring on Monday, September 9th.

PRESCHOOL BEGINS THIS WEEK!  Check your child's take-home tray for the monthly newsletter, etc.  I will be sending all our summer art home tomorrow and the games from summer later on in the week.

News Posted September 2, 2019:

MRS. ANNIE IS HAVING AN UNEXPECTED SURGERY ON TUESDAY, SEPT. 3RD.  She will be out of the daycare until September 9, 2019.  Ms. Christina will be in charge during this time and Beth Moore (Mrs. Annie's mom) will be filling in for Mrs. Annie through Thursday, then Mr. Eddie will cover for Friday.  Mrs. Moore is a retired principal and former teacher.  Your child will be in excellent hands.  We would welcome everyone's prayers during this time of surgery and recovery.

END OF SUMMER PAJAMA DAY RESCHEDULED!  Due to Mrs. Annie's surgery, we are rescheduling the pajama day for Friday, September 13.

PRESCHOOL STARTS BACK IN SEPTEMBER!  September 9th will be our first official day of school.  Our curriculum provides materials that are appropriate for 2-1/2 to 5 year olds.  If your child is not quite 2-1/2, they will still be able to participate but will not receive materials.  We include them in everything we do (and they love to participate).  We even scale down the art and allow them to experiment in their own way with similar art materials as the older kids.  While their productions are not as elaborate as the "big" kids, they are just as proud of what they made and are practicing using the various media, so they will be ready when they are older.  Preschoolers will receive a parent newsletter at the beginning of each month that will tell what they will be learning about.  This is also printed on the weekly menu posted on the wall as well as on our website.  This is very important because it will help you with communicating with your child on what they are learning each day and help you to also focus on the same things as you interact with your child each day.  Please check your child's cubby each day for any school information or activities that they can do at home.  At the end of the month, I will send home any learning games/activities that we used during the month for your child to keep and play with.  Let them just play with these things.  They may remember what to do, but it's okay if they or you want to make up a different way to play the game or use the activities.  (Hint:  This is a great tool to use to occupy your child's attention while you are busy preparing supper, etc.)  Just like last year, I will send the monthly journals home for your child to complete with your assistance.  This is important to work one-on-one with them practicing mathmatics, and early writing and literacy skills.  I encourage you to save these, so you can compare them over time to see how your child's skills are improving.  Also, if anyone would like the booklist for each month, please see me and I can provide you a copy.  We are always looking for "LIBRARY MOMS."  If you are interested, sign-up by the entrance door.  You can just do it one time or pick several months throughout the year.  You would be responsible for going to the library (preferably with your child) and picking out books for our classroom to borrow, and then simply returning them when they are due.  We promise to take good care of them while we are borrowing them and will even provide you with a tote bag to carry them back and forth.  This will provide such great enrichment for our classroom during storytime.

ANNIE'S PLAYHOUSE has a NEW TOY!!!  At the beginning of the summer, we purchased the RAINBOW SPRINKLER toy from Target after several parents had shown an interest.  Thank you all for offering to help purchase it, but we had it in the budget, so I went ahead and bought it before it was gone...SOOOOOO as soon as the playyard is finished and some grass grows on it, we are going to have a water day!  More info to come.

NEW TEACHER NEEDED TO WORK PART-TIME:  We will be hiring a new teacher to work the afternoon shift.  This will be from either 11:30 to 5:30 +/- or 1:00 to 5:30 +/- whichever they choose.  If you know anyone personally who would like this position, we will give special consideration to applicants who are recommended by others that we know (word of mouth) rather than a stranger off the unemployment roster.  Qualifications:  MUST love children and working with them.  MUST be able to pass all background checks through TBI and FBI as well as a complete fingerprinting check.  Would prefer someone who has previous experience in childcare or working with young children in some capacity.  There is required training that must be completed after passing the background checks and before beginning work as well as required 12 hours of training per year.  Starting pay is above minimum wage and depending on experience.

News Posted May 26, 2019:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! TO THE MOREFIELDS AND THE PEMBERTONS!!!  We want to welcome two new playhouse babies who were born this month and congratulate their moms and dads.  Cameron James Morefield was born on July 5, 2019 to Emily (my daughter and our former teacher, Ms. Emily) and Chris Morefield weighing in at 4'6."  Tyler McKinley Pemberton was born on July 15, 2019 to Megan and Matt Pemberton weighing in at 6'5."  They are preceded by two very proud older siblings, Carter Morefield and Serenity Pemberton (both in our playhouse), respectively.  We are so excited about these two new precious little boys and what great things they are going to contribute in their lifetime!

SAYING GOOD-BYE!!!  Marshall Ross's last day at our school will be August 3rd.  We wish him and his family the very best as he moves to a new school.  This is always an emotional time for us as our kids have to grow up and eventually move on along to higher ground.  The Ross family has been with us for 6-1/2 years.  We got to watch older brother Landon grow and blossom as well as Marshall, and we will miss them all!!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATIENCE!  I want to thank everyone for your patience and understanding of our parking and construction zone that has dragged out Waayyyyy too long.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.  We are expecting the garage to be completed as far as the exterior by the end of next week and the interior (electrical, HVAC) by the following week.  We will be spreading the excess gravel along the side parking spaces that have long needed a face lift, so there should be no more puddles or mud at least for this year.  HaHa!!! My husband is starting to put the playyard back together this weekend (has already begun spreading dirt and leveling the space).  Because of budget constraints, we will have to utilize the previous fencing while making any repairs that are needed.  At first the kids will have the playhouse to use, basketball goals, balls, and outdoor games, etc. and LOTS of running space.  Due to DHS new licensing laws, we will not be allowed to have any climbing equipment until we can either secure a grant or raise enough money for the surfacing requirements to be installed.  We will have to be patient, creative, and resourceful, but I have a lot of ideas and am constantly looking every chance I get, so we can build an awesome outdoor play space complete with climbing toys.  As soon as my budget recovers from all these BIG projects, I will be adding sand and water play tables under the breezeway.

SCHOOL PICTURE DAY THIS TUESDAY! This Tuesday, May 14th @ 9:00 am, Teddy Bear Portraits will be coming to capture our SMILES!  This year I have negotiated a 20% discount off each family's purchases.  So, everyone will automatically receive 20% off.  They will NOT be coming that afternoon for the SALES EVENT as mentioned previously!  They called last week and said that they were going to do the sales event online, so you will actually have 48 hours to take advantage of the additional 20 % discount for the "SAME DAY" purchase.  During that time you will be able to view and purchase pictures at the additional 20% discount for placing your order within 48 hours (that's 40% off).  If you miss this 48-hour deadline, you will still be able to purchase pictures and receive the initial 20% discount.

CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON!!!  As most of you know, we have been involved in several small construction projects inside our home to make necessary improvements to this 30-year-old home.  We are almost done, but will be starting on the outside next week.  I am so excited!  My husband is finally going to have his garage since Annie's Playhouse took his first one away!  We will be removing the beautiful, and much loved CHERRY TREE and grading the yard down to the level required for the garage and concrete breezeway.  In the process of building the garage, we will be tearing down the play yard and making required changes due to DHS New Licensing Requirements.  Unfortunately, this means that the children will be without outside time for probably a couple months.  We will continue to do gross motor movement activities indoors just as we have been due to all the rainy/cold days of winter.  But the upside of this is that when the new playyard is complete, we will have a 15 X 20 ft. covered breezeway that we will be able to enjoy outside even on rainy days.  I am looking at various options for the new playyard such as a sound garden, bamboo forest, natural sunflower house, possibly a slide built into a hill, a clothesline imagination tent area, raised gardens that allow the children to grow fruits, herbs, vegetables, and perhaps even a fairy garden.  These are just some preliminary ideas that I have settled on.  If anyone would like to share an idea, I would love input from other's experiences.  There are many companies that offer grants for playgrounds and resilient surfacing.  I am going to apply for some of these and hopefully win some.  During all this construction, I will do my best to communicate with you if there are changes in parking for that day, etc.  I really don't know at this point what to expect.  Summertown Metals is building the garage, and once the ground is prepared, the garage will go up in only a few days.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER INTRODUCTION!  I have a doctor's Appt. on this Wednesday, March 27, so my best friend, Mrs. Connie Katimi will be working for me a little during nap-time from 2:00 - 3:30 +/- on Wednesday.  She sings in the Praise Band at church with me and is a wonderful person, grandmother, volunteer, etc. in the church.  She loves kids & is great with them.  I trust her completely.  I will be back ASAP.  Mrs. Christina Swaim will be in charge while I am away, so you may call or text her (615-427-3062) or me if you need to.

Please keep Eddie's Mom in your prayers!  I took her to the doctor last Wednesday for a slight fever and constant cough and she was admitted into the hospital for pneumonia.  Since then, she has developed strep infection in her blood stream and is very sick.  She was doing a little better when we went to visit after church today, so I am hopeful she will pull through.  But due to some other health issues, she will not be coming back here for a couple months.  She will have to be in a rehab facility to receive therapy for her legs.

END OF WINTER PAJAMA DAY!!!  Okay, since most of us forgot this last Friday (including the teachers), THIS FRIDAY is our "end of winter" (HAHA) pajama day!  Your child may wear their pajamas to school and bring their favorite cuddly stuffed animal and their favorite winter book to read as we "hopefully" say good-bye to winter.  We'll try to remember & remind everyone else too on Thursday night.

FLU HAS ARRIVED!  We have had several diagnosed cases of type A Flu in the daycare.  Please watch your child closely for Flu symptoms and keep them home if necessary.  Be sure to follow the doctor's recommendations for when to allow them to return to daycare.

MARDI GRAS!  "Fat Tuesday" is this Tuesday, March 5th.  Since I happen to be an authentic Cajun, of course we will be celebrating all day and will enjoy eating a piece of KING CAKE during snack.  Be sure to grab a piece if you'd like to try it when you pick up your child in the afternoon.  "Laissez les Bon Temp Rouler!" ( "Let the Good Times Roll!")  Also, the menu this week will consist of some bonified cajun dishes straight from my family recipes, so the children can get a little flavor culture education (minus the "too-spicy" versions).

SAYING GOOD-BYE TO MRS. EMILY!  This Friday is Mrs. Emily's last day in the playhouse.  Her growing family and their needs required that she work more hours at a higher rate of pay than we can afford.  We are very sad to see her go, but we wish her the best.  She will be working at Wilson Bank but may get to sub for us from time to time.  Of course, Carter and the new baby will still be with us, so you may get to see her coming and going as she drops them off and picks them up.

ANNUAL PARENT TAKE-HOME MEETING will end this Friday, February 8th.  Please complete all required forms and turn them in by Friday, February 8th.  When you do this, be sure to sign the attendance form on the wall by the entrance door so your family can be entered in a drawing to win the "Family Fun Night" Basket!  If both parents read the packet and sign the attendance sheet...well that just means your family gets TWO chances to win the basket...hint-hint!  Also, your child's class roster will be included with that packet for you to make your Valentine's Cards if you wish to participate in our Valentine exchange.

NEW SUMMARY OF LICENSING RULES NOTICE:  All of you received a Summary of Licensing Rules in the enrollment packet when you enrolled your child initially into our playhouse (the green form).  Next week you will be receiving a new one that will reflect the recent changes to Childcare Licensing Laws.  When you sign the "Take-Home Meeting" attendance form there will also be a check mark for you to check that you received the new summary.

VALENTINE'S PARTY will be on Thursday, February 14th.  We will be exchanging Valentines and playing fun games all day.  We will have a party at 3:30 during our snack time.  If any parent would like to host/plan the party, please let one of the teachers know.  You may use our Facebook Page to do this (that's what others have done in the past successfully).  Children, wear your favorite Valentine's clothing or just wear red, pink, or purple, and bring your VALENTINES!

NEW MEMBER IN THE SWAIM HOUSEHOLD!  My mother-in-law,  Jeanette Swaim is coming to live with us beginning this Friday, Feb. 8th.  She has become a high-fall risk and requires some specific health care, so you may see a new face.  Many of you were aware that I had to begin taking off Fridays to care for her and her house about a year and a half ago, so now I will not have to do that anymore since she is here with us now.  I am looking forward to being with the kids again on Fridays and getting back into our full week school schedule.

News Posted September 29, 2018:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS. EMILY!!!  Mrs. Emily's birthday is this Wednesday, October 3rd.  We wish her a very happy birthday!

PRESCHOOL SUCCESS!!!  We had a GREAT first month of preschool!  These toddlers and younger preschoolers are really blowing my mind with how well they are settling into the school routine.  Even our one-year olds are eager to jump in!  Our curriculum for the children is super expensive ($40 per child per month) but so worth it!  It is recommended for only age 2-1/2 through 5 year olds, so if your child is not yet fitting into this age group, please be aware that they will not be receiving curriculum materials (such as monthly newsletter, art supplies, journals, etc.) until they are 2-1/2.  BUT...we include them in anything they are interested in.   We never turn them away from learning.  Their art won't be as fancy as the older children, but they think they are doing the same thing as the "big" kids, and "shhh...we won't tell them any differently."  They also participate in and are exposed to all of our learning games and are given the opportunity to explore the learning materials just as the older kids do.

SAYING GOODBYE!!!  We said good-bye to Zeffie Vandeventer last Friday.  Her mom began maternity leave this week and we wish them the very best!  We already miss sweet, smiling, little Zeffie and hope we can squeeze her and baby brother back in the daycare in the future.

HEADS UP!!!  There will be a few minor changes to some of our routines coming up.  The Department of Human Services has implemented a new set of rules for childcares that went into effect on July 30th of this year.  We had intense training this week on the changes.  We have until January 1st to implement them and adjust to the new rules without penalties.  Here are just a few that apply to you, the parents:

1.  No teething necklaces, pacifiers that are clipped to child, and/or pacifiers that are attached to soft toys or other objects are allowed on your baby/child at all during daycare hours.

2.  New form for sign in/out sheets require writing out the child's full name (first and last), as well as printing the parent's name followed by a full signature (not initials as we've been able to do in the past).  I am going to use up the remaining forms we have printed, but when you see the new form appear on the clipboard, that is when we will need to follow the new procedures.

3.  Absolutely no medications INCLUDING diaper creams/ointments, sunscreen, insect repellant allowed in diaper bags or cubbies.  These are all considered KORC products (Keep out of reach of children) and therefore must be handed over directly to child's teacher so that they can be secured in a safe out of reach place (medications still have to be kept locked and signed in on medication chart).

4.  NO SMOKING OR VAPING!  Smoking or vaping is NOT allowed on the premises or WITHIN 50 feet of the facilities outside.  This previously was restricted to the inside facilities and the playground only.

5.  BACKUP PLAN/BABYSITTER:  We are not allowed to have children on the premises if there is a loss of water supply, sewage system not operating, or electricity failures where the room temperature can not be maintained between 68 and 78 degrees F.  Be sure to have a backup plan in case we have to close.  The previous requirement stated that we could remain open if these failures were going to be less than an hour.  New requirements state that we have to close.  This is very upsetting to us as well because many times for most people these incidents only happen for a brief time (less than 30 minutes), so by the time we contact parents and they are on their way, the problem will have already been fixed.  This seems like a huge inconvenience.  BUT, just so you know, we have only experienced having to close two times in the 19 years we have been in business.  This was when we lost power/water for 3-4 hours because of maintenance being performed by the city/county.  My electricity outage during a storm or other reasons has averaged less than 5 minutes in the twenty years we have lived here (with the exception of the Murfreesboro Tornado which occurred thankfully on a holiday and weekend), so I do not anticipate this being an issue for our location.

BONUS!!!  I am sending home some games leftover from May this week.  You should have already got some leftover supplies from last year's curriculum.  Please enjoy all these with your child.

FLU Forms to sign this week.  I will have the annual FLU Notification Forms for you to sign tomorrow morning.  This is just a form stating that you are aware that there is a Flu Vaccine available for your child to receive each year.  The vaccine is always optional, we just have to have on file that you are aware that it exists.

PRESCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW!  Our first day of preschool will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, September 4th.  Please have your 2-1/2 to 5 year old wide-eyed and ready to begin.  We try to start around 8:45 and end between 10:30-11:00  (of course the learning never ends--all day enrichment).  We will be using Mother Goose Time Curriculum Materials again this year, but will be using the Beginner's Bible Curriculum for our Wednesday Bible Lessons this year.  You will get a monthly newsletter from Mother Goose Time detailing what your child will be learning about during that month and suggesting activities to do at home to reinforce the learning at school.  Please try to do these activities with your child.  It is a great way to connect with your child while having a great time as well.  Your child will remember those moments for years to come and you will be instilling in them a lifelong love for learning!

Thanks everyone for our Vacation Time!  We really appreciate you all!  Looking forward to seeing the kiddos & getting back into routines, etc. this week.   I am planning a water day for the kids on Wednesday, so watch for a text from me on Tuesday night to confirm.

REMINDER:  Now that summer is here, we are playing outside on every nice day, so remember to put 6-8 hours sunscreen on your child before they arrive.  We are only out for an hour in the morning unless it's a water day!  The children always have a hat on too.  Sometimes they go out in the late afternoon when there is a lot more shade in the yard.  Also, if you have not already done so, please check your child's cubby for extra clothes, being sure to grab any winter weather clothing and swap them out with summer clothing.  Thank you.

ANNUAL PAID VACATION CLOSING!  Remember that we will be closed next week and the following Monday for our Annual Paid Vacation this year (Monday, July 2nd through Monday, July 9th).  This includes 1 paid holiday/July 4th & five paid vacation days.  Please make other arrangements for childcare during this time.  Payment for the week of July 2nd through July 9th and for the Month of July (for those who pay by the month) will be due by Friday, June 29th.  We will be back open on Tuesday, July 10th.  Thank you so much for allowing us this time to get some R & R.

SWIMSUIT TIME!!!  Still waiting on 3 people to send an old or cheap swimsuit!  I am looking at Monday or Tuesday of this week to have a mud/water day.  We had a lot of colds and pink-eye/ear infections going around over the last two weeks, so if everyone is feeling better and the weather cooperates, we should be okay for Monday...as always, I will let you know the night before so you can "lather" up your child in the morning before they arrive.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OUR PLAYHOUSE DADS!  You guys are great and called to be someone very important and special:  The spiritual leader of the household!  (Ephesians 5:23)  We uphold you and keep you in our prayers as you take up that role daily.  Hope you all are having an awesome day!

SWIMSUIT TIME!!!  Please send an old or cheap swimsuit to leave in your child's cubby all summer (we will launder them as we use them).  We like to have mud/water play days during the summertime.  (This applies to older children only.  Infants under 17 mos. are not involved yet in this activity.)  I will let you know as late as the night before so that you can be sure to put waterproof sunscreen on your child before they arrive the next morning.  On these days we go outside around 8:30-9:00 and stay until 10:45. (about two hours).  I watch the weather each week and monitor the state of our play-yard so that our grass doesn't get too much water and turn into a muddy pond the rest of the summer (lol!).  Because Tennessee weather can flip or flop on a moment's notice, it's difficult to plan these days out a week ahead, but I will do my best to make a decision for these days and give you as much heads up as possible.

HOT WEATHER!!!!  Please be careful with your children in hot weather.  They can dehydrate very quickly and body temperature can quickly reach dangerous levels.  Our policy is to not go out in temperatures above 92F unless we are having a water play day.  Even then we make sure the children are having lots of water breaks and staying hydrated.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWSON!!!  Dawson Cook is turning two this Wednesday!  Graduating from toddlerhood!

EASTER PARTY!!!  Our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Party will be Thursday, March 29th.  If anyone is interested in hosting/helping with this party, sign-up on the party sheet by the entrance or let one of the teachers know.  We are asking for each child to bring one dozen filled plastic eggs (candy or small favors) for our Easter Egg Hunt.

JUST A REMINDER:  We will be closed on Friday, March 30th for our annual paid holiday of Good Friday.

MARCH WEATHER  Now that we are in March, hopefully the weather will be getting warmer.  Please make sure your child has good play shoes that you don't mind them getting dirty and that they can run and climb in such as tennis shoes.  Although sandals are pretty and cute on little girls, they do inhibit their ability to run at full pace and often we see them trip or lose a sandal while running.  Feel free to leave a pair of old tennis shoes in your child's cubby just for playing outside if you wish.  That way your child can wear pretty shoes to school & home but still have "functional" shoes for outside play.  Also, remember to change out your child's extra clothes to reflect the warmer weather as it gets warmer (maybe not yet...still some chilly days ahead), and check the size as well since young children can grow tremendously over a season or two.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAISLEY!  Caisley Jones is turning 4 years old on Wednesday, February 28th.  We wish her a very happy birthday!

DR. SEUSS'S BIRTHDAY!  Friday, we will celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday with a fun breakfast and lots of his famous stories.  Kids can wear silly clothes that day!  Whatever Dr. Seuss inspired fashions they can come up with is OK with Mrs. Annie.

FLU SEASON!!! Since the Flu is all around us, this would be a good time to remind your child(ren) about the importance of not sharing "germs."  Good hygiene practice such as using tissues to touch noses and washing hands after blowing noses or coughing and before and after eating and after pottying can make a huge difference in  keeping germs from spreading.

ICE/SNOW CLOSINGS:  Just a reminder:  We follow the Rutherford County School Closings for Ice/Snow.  We do not close for cold temperatures unless ice is still a factor!

MARDI GRAS!  "Fat Tuesday" is this Tuesday, February 13th.  Due to an accident I had last week (stitches & glue in my hands), I am sorry but the children will NOT be making their own King Cakes to take home & share with their family.  I just don't feel that I can manage that many king cakes with my hand "out of order."  I'm very glad I had not told the kids yet, so they won't know the difference.  Mrs. Christina volunteered to make a large King Cake to share with everyone, so feel free to grab a piece when you pick up your child in the afternoon.  We'll still celebrate and "Let the Good Times Roll!"  "Laissez les Bon Temp Rouler!"

VALENTINE'S PARTY!  Wednesday, February 14th is our party day!  Thanks to Olivia's mom, Krystal, for hosting our party this year.  Children, bring your valentines and wear red, pink, or purple on party day!

PERSONAL SAFETY CURRICULUM starts this week (for 3, 4, & 5 year-olds only).  Watch your take-home tray each night for info/activities to enhance at home what we are learning at school.

Please NoteOur new curriculum provides numerous math, language, & other learning games each month, so at the end of the month, I bag each one up and the children get to draw to win & choose the game that they want to have.  Some of the games may need a counter (many objects of one type such as cotton balls, beans, legos, or anything that can be used to count, add, subtract.  Be creative & look around your house for things that could be used.)  Also, the games have no instructions but most are self-explanatory and are either counting games, word manipulatives, matching games, sorting games such as sizes, colors, shapes, "go-fishing" cards, etc.  Just look in the bag & use the materials in any way that makes sense.  Your child will probably remember what to do with them.  They are yours to keep & use in any way you like to enhance language & learning.

USDA CHANGES BEGIN THIS WEEK!  The USDA Food Program revised its requirements for infants and children's nutrition for the first time in 57 years.  These changes are required to go into effect beginning October 1, 2017 throughout all sponsored USDA Food Program facilities.  This includes Home Child Care, Head Start, Center Child Care, and Elementary, Middle, and High School Cafeterias.  We began implementing the changes as early as August 2016, so you have probably already noticed some changes in our menu.  Beginning next week our menus will reflect the new requirements entirely.  These changes include more whole grain (WG) foods, greater variety in color of fruits & vegetables, more raw fruits & veggies, greater serving size requirements for milk, all sugar in certain snack foods (except very low amounts) no longer allowed, & prepared fried foods no longer allowed.

THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING TO OPEN HOUSE!  I enjoyed talking with each of you and watching the excitement in your child as she/he showed you around the classroom.

HALLOWEEN PARTY!  Our party this year will be Tuesday, October 31st.  If you would like to be the parent to plan/host our party that day, please let one of us teachers know.  You do not have to be present to host the party.  You would just organize and coordinate with other parents via FB, a sign-up sheet, or our website to figure out what food/item they can bring, etc.  The party will be at 3:30.  For school that day the children may dress-up in their costumes (only rated G, non-frightening please) and we would like each child to send a treat that day (it doesn't have to be candy...it could be pencils, sticky notes, stickers, tattoos, etc.).  We will learn about safety around the street and at night for trick-or-treating and will have a "practice" trick-or-treat activity.  They will each get a turn to pass their treat out as the others go trick-or-treating at their "house."

PRESCHOOL & TODDLER SCHOOL BEGINS THIS TUESDAY!  School this year with "MOTHER GOOSE TIME" will begin THIS Tuesday, September 5th.  LOOK for our September Newsletter in your child's take-home tray.  You will actually receive a newsletter each month, so it will no longer be available on our website.  You will also receive a note each day of your child's school activities and ways to talk with him/her about their day.  If you or a grandparent would like to donate some school supplies, here is a list of things we use throughout the year (and run out of a lot):

*Glue Sticks

*School Glue

*Washable markers, any size, any color

*Twistable crayons, shorter size not pencil length (better for the older kids because they don't break)

*Construction Paper/Art Paper, any color

*Popsicle sticks

*Computer Paper/Drawing Paper

*Newspaper

*Paper Shreds

END OF SUMMER PAJAMA DAY will be this Friday, September 1st.  We will pretend to have a campout inside.  Please let your child bring one small camping item to share with the class (i.e. flashlights, canteens, bug collecting box, butterfly net, snack, fishing pole-w/o a hook please, binoculars, etc.).  We will tell camping stories, & sing camping songs around the campfire while we make smores!

CALLING ALL COWBOYS/COWGIRLS OUT ON THE RANGE!  This is our last week of summertime fun, so we are going to have some cowgirl/cowboy fun this week!  We will learn cowboy/cowgirl songs & dances, eat foods that cowboys used to enjoy out on the range, and have a yahooooo, old-fashioned, giddy-up week of cowboy/girl crafts and activities.  Listed below are things you will need to know to help your child participate this week:

Wednesday:   Dress to school like a cowgirl/cowboy!

Thursday:  Bring a cowboy/cowgirl themed book to share with class!

Friday:  See the note above about our "Camping In" Pajama Day!

SOLAR ECLIPSE!  Monday, August 21st...We have been studying all about the eclipse and shadows.  We plan to take the 3 & 4 year-olds outside, one-at-a-time (so that we can physically hold their glasses on tight), to see the partial eclipse.  I have purchased some glasses directly from NASA's website that they recommended as completely safe & approved for the eclipse viewing.

NEW CURRICULUM THIS YEAR!  We are making some important changes this year.  Beginning in September, we will be using the Mother Goose Time Curriculum in place of the Funshine Express.  I have used it in the past and liked it, but they have recently improved it tremendously making it even better than Funshine.  And Funshine Express made alot of changes to this year's curriculum by making some things only available online and doubled the cost while removing the pre-made/cut materials which really sealed the deal for me.  To print, and make, and cut-out the materials daily would be a death sentence to my already worn hands...not to mention the extra time & cost that would involve.  They also removed many of the other supplies from their website such as art, educational toys, supplements, etc.  MGT offers all of these things and more with many more supplied quality materials at a slightly lower cost...so it's a no-brainer.  MGT curriculum also aligns with the Tennessee State Standards for Kindergarten just like Funshine Express.  They also include a toddler curriculum and the "Experiencing God" Christian curriculum.  I believe the parents and teachers are all going to love it!

GREAT NEWS!  For those of you who were having trouble with the link in my weekly email, I believe I have finally fixed it.  Please try it and give me feedback if you still cannot get it to work.  Thanks for your patience in this matter, and I apologize for the delay in fixing it (Mrs. Annie is from the OLD generation where we get all twisted and tangled up inside over technology things).

SAYING GOODBYE TO ALLIE MATHEWS & EVAN ARNOLD!  At the end of this week or beginning of next week, we will wish Allie Mathews & Evan Arnold a BIG Goodbye as they move on to K-R & Kindergarten, respectively.  Mrs. Annie is very confident they will both be great students and lifelong learners as they continue their thirst for knowledge that had its wee beginnings here at Annie's Playhouse!  I am very proud of both of them and wish them the very best as they journey onward!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZACHARY SWAIM!  He will be ten years old tomorrow!!!  My, my...in the double digits...when did this happen???

SAYING GOODBYE TO LANDON ROSS!  This week, we are wishing the best for Landon as he moves on to another school.  Friday will be his last day with us.  He has been with us since he was an infant, so it is not going to be easy on us teachers.  The only consolation is that his baby brother will still be here, so we will get to still see Landon every now & then.  August is always a little bit bitter-sweet.  Saying good-bye to friends moving on, but making new friends as friends join our classroom is a little sad and exciting all wrapped up together.  If your child seems to be having trouble making these transitions or feeling sad over friends moving on, then help them to stay in touch with their friend(s) by using our Facebook page or website to contact them and arrange play dates, etc.  This will help them understand that their friend is still around just not at the same school and can help maintain friendships.

OOPS!  CORRECTION FROM LAST WEEK'S NEWS!  Lennon McHenry will not be joining us after all.  They were looking for part-time care and found someone just after enrolling him with us.  Also our new friend, Brooke Givens who was coming just for the summer, has been visiting family up North since the end of June and will not be returning.  She won't be back to Tennessee until just before her Kindergarten begins.  It was short...but sweet!

WATER DAY!  I am hoping to have another water day this coming Thursday depending on the weather.  I will text everyone the night before to confirm and remind everyone.

News Posted May 29, 2017:

Thanks to all the children who brought in their nature items on Friday.  We got a nice variety and the children decided to combine them all to create a nature diorama to display in our classroom.  We had a few science lessons as part of this project; i.e. recycling, what happens to plants when they are picked from the ground, difference between live plants and dried ones, sorting specimens/discriminating between plants vs. animals (snails/flowers), discussion on detritivores and biodegradable vs. non-biodegradable.   The children enjoyed viewing the diorama with their magnifying glasses and even found a teeny-tiny bug crawling around inside the diorama.

A HUGE THANK-YOU to MRS. EMILY AND MISS CHRISTINA!  They kept everything running smooth and organized while I was away in Houston.  They even threw an awesome Easter Party & Egg Hunt!  I want to thank them so much for being so reliable and dependable.  It really gives me peace of mind when I have to be away.  Mrs. Emily will be leaving on vacation this Thursday and will return on May 8th.  We wish her a safe and relaxing rest.  Miss Christina will be on vacation from May 15th through the 19th.  This will be a well-deserved break for both of them.

APRIL IS NATIONAL AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!  Be on the lookout for your child's developmental milestone checklist from the CDC this week in your take-home tray.  This list will help you to identify how your child is comparing to other children his/her age and what is typically expected for your child at their age.  Keep in mind that this is just a guideline.  Children do develop differently in quite a wide range of ages.  They could be weak in one area but excelling in another.

APRIL IS NATIONAL AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!  I will be posting more info throughout the month on developmental milestones, etc. to be aware of.  Autism rates in young children have been increasing exponentially since the 1990's.  From 2000 to 2010, there was a 110% increase in children with autism.  Because early diagnosis & intervention is so critical in children with signs of autism, it is crucial to constantly assess your child's developmental milestones to be sure there are no "red flags."  Autism has no obvious look to it such as "down syndrome" and other diagnosis and can present itself in many differing forms (ASD's-Autism Spectrum Disorders).  Children with ASD's are usually very high-functioning but may have difficulty in certain areas of their development that differ from typical developing children.  These differences respond extremely well to specialized therapy if implemented early before age 5-6.   After this age, brain functions become more solidified and difficult to undo or add-to especially when pertaining to language development and social interactions.

ATTENTION:  FREE EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING!!!  Rutherford County School's Annual Free Screening will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. @ Barfield Elementary or Stewartsboro Elementary.  This is for children ages 2-1/2 through 4 years old.  They will be screened for Vision, Hearing, Speech & Language, or Learning problems.  It is a GREAT idea to have your child screened even if you do NOT suspect any developmental problems or delays.  It is always better to make certain, and this is FREE!!!  If there are any problems, the outcome is always much greater the earlier you find out and can receive services.  Certain areas in a young child's brain such as speech language development or processing becomes solidified and basically shuts down at around 5-6 years of age.  So, if there are any problems...timing is crucial.  DON'T WAIT!  PLAY IT SAFE!!!

WEAR GREEN OR GET PINCHED!!!  This Friday is St. Patrick's Day!  Please help your child pick out something green to wear.  We will be having lots of Leprechaun Fun on this day!

PRAYERS PLEASE!  Due to some recent health findings, I will be out of the daycare all day on Wednesday for several further diagnostic tests.  I will not be able to be reached by phone, so please call Emily 615-519-7819 or Christina's cell 615-427-3062 if you need to reach us.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY PROJECT!  DEADLINE FOR COLLECTING CHANGE:  This Friday, Dec. 9th.  In the spirit of giving and teaching our children to be benevolent, I thought it might be nice to give them an opportunity to take part in a project this year.  My church has adopted a small Mayan village located three hours into the jungle from Cancun.  The village is named "Chan-Chen" which means "little well."  My church just happens to be "THE WELL."  (This was a "God" thing that brought us together...it wasn't until we were already very involved with this village that we learned of the translation of the village name...COOL coincidence?  Nah...God knew!)  A group from our church has been going there for several years helping the mission and last year our pastor went too.  We collected enough change last year to pay for a whole year's tuition for 36 children in this little village.  This included shoes, school supplies and the required uniform as well.  They do not have free school like we do here and without an education, there is very little hope for them to find jobs later on as an adult.  I have placed a Jar on the counter to collect change for these children.  If your child would like to participate, they can simply collect any pocket change from their family each day and put it in the jar.  I hope you will consider helping us.  This is a great opportunity and all the money goes directly to the children's tuition and school needs.

JESUS'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!  Friday, December 16th @ 3:30.  If you would like to plan/host the party, please let me know.  Although you are always welcome, it is not required that you stay for the party if you want to plan it but can't take off work to be there.

HOLIDAY PICTURES COMING SOON!  Our own Mrs. Emily is a Freelance Photographer and would like to gain more experience, so she is going to take professional pictures of your child and put them on a CD for you with full COPYRIGHTS for only $10.00.  This covers the cost of the CD and her time editing!  This is an awesome deal.  We have ordered the backdrop we are going to use, so as soon as it comes in, I will let you know the date for pics.  We will take them during the daycare hours so you won't have to be inconvenienced by scheduling an appointment, etc.  You may dress your child in Holiday Festive clothing if you wish.  The background is mostly white...a snowy scene.  (Hint:  You could create some awesome holiday gifts for family members with these).  Our goal is to get them completed in plenty of time before Christmas.

HOLIDAY CLOSING SCHEDULE:  We will be closed for Christmas & New Year Holidays the Week of December 26th through December 30th.  Please note:  If you pay by the month, you will pay your regular scheduled payment since there are 4 full weeks in December (including the 3 paid holidays).  If you pay by the week, you will only owe for three days of that week for paid holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day).

I will be gone this week (Oct. 8 through 15) to Houston to3 care for my dad.  I never mind getting text or phone calls if you need to reach me.   Also, Miss Christina's cell is (615) 427-3062 and Mrs. Emily's is (615) 519-7819 if you need to reach them.  Mrs. Emily will be the teacher in charge while I'm gone.

HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!  Monday, October 31st.  Mrs. Emily is hosting it, but if anyone would like to help, just see her, and I am sure she would love some help.  Children, wear your costumes, and bring a small bag of treats or favors to pass out to others and a "TRICK-OR-TREAT" bucket, bag, etc.

OCTOBER IS FIRE SAFETY MONTH!  We will be learning about fire safety during the third week of October.  The FIRE DEPARTMENT will come that week to show the children the fire truck and tools and equipment they use to fight fires!  This is a great time for you to check all the alarms and replace batteries as needed around your home.  It is also a perfect time to discuss and practice the plan for your family and a meeting place to go in case there is ever a fire in your home.

News Posted October 2, 2016:

September Artwork going home!  Check your child's Take-Home Tray and enjoy.  Sit down with your child and let them tell you about each paper.   Just start out by saying, "Tell me about this one."  Having conversations with your child is very important for their language development as well as making them feel loved and important.  Going over their schoolwork with them also says to them that what they do in school is valued and important.

What do you do with all those papers and art that come from school to home?  Many people feel that they have to save every paper and even feel guilty if they throw them away.  After going over them with their child, it is perfectly fine to throw them away as long as your child doesn't see you throw them away.  You may want to save any special ones (Their first letter written, extra nice artwork, certificates earned, etc.) and start a file for your child that they will appreciate later on.  But many parents choose to snap a photo of the work and then toss it.  If your older child has a special project or speech they are presenting in school, simply take a video of them making their presentation at home and toss after they present it in school.  You won't be cluttering up your attic with stuff you will probably never use or retrieve again and your child gets extra practice with their presentation.

Are you having trouble retrieving the Monthly Newsletter?  Some parents are clicking the link and it takes them to the Fireflies Homepage.  Once there, just click on MENU, then FIREFLIES SUPPLEMENTS, then NEWSLETTERS.  Then choose the month you would like to read.

Just a Reminder:  Check your child's Take-Home Tray at least once a week for things that need to go home.  Thank you.

A BIG THANK YOU to ALLIE MATHEWS and family for bringing us a generous supply of gluesticks, computer paper and crayons!  We appreciate your generosity and we will certainly be able to use it.

News Posted September 10, 2016:  I apologize for the news and menu not getting updated last week.  This website was down everytime I tried to get in and update.  Glad we are up and running this week.

This School year got off to a great start!  The kids were excited and ready and really participating and enjoying it.  Allie Mathews told me on Tuesday, "Mrs. Annie, I am sooooo excited that we are starting school!"  LOVE that attitude!

MENU CHANGES!  Look for some very positive menu changes.  I recently attended a mandatory workshop in Knoxville and for the first time since its installation 57 years ago, the meal patterns and requirements are changing for the USDA School Food Program (even the name of the program is changing).  It will be implemented beginning in October 2017.  Although I have always followed a similar plan just because it is healthier, there will be a few changes even for us.  Rather than wait until October 2017, I am beginning to implement the changes now just so I can easily adjust and practice cooking some new foods such as quinoa, wheat berries, bulgur, millet, etc. in order to create kid friendly, palatable meals before it will actually be required.  Some of the changes include serving at least one whole grain food per day, serving more raw fruits & vegetables, serving a wide and diverse variety of fruits and vegetables with more emphasis on red, orange, and dark leafy ones, serving more vegetables for breakfasts, serving a wider variety of whole grains such as the ones listed above, more dry beans and peas, baked instead of fried foods, and less sugar filled foods at snack-time (6 gms or less sugar content per serving).

WE GOOFED!  I and the other teachers will apologize to the students on Monday.  They worked so hard all week on a card and reciting a poem for Grandparent's Day, and we forgot to send it home on Friday.  Please check your child's take-home tray where you will now find these.

FLU NOTIFICATION FORMS Once again, the time of year has arrived for us to sign these required forms.  I will have them for you some time this week.

END OF SUMMER PAJAMA DAY!  This Friday, September 2nd!!!  Wear your favorite PJ's, BRING A FLASHLIGHT, and bring a story about something cool you did with your family this summer (or a previous summertime activity if your child remembers it).  Mom and Dad can jot the story down and Mrs. Annie will read it aloud for you to share with your friends.  We will be pretending to go camping (flashlights), discussing the end of summer and beginning of school time, so it will be a nice language enrichment if we get lots of neat stories from home about summer activities...hint...hint.

2016/2017 PRESCHOOL WILL START BACK NEXT TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH.  Please download the newsletter from the link on this website so you can stay abreast of what your child is learning.  Also, there are great activities suggested for you to do at home with your child.  This will really make a difference in how they learn and make crucial connections between school and home.  This year we will be including the two-year-olds with the Fireflies Curriculum and using small group activities.

School-agers will be returning to school over the next two weeks.  It's always a bittersweet time when we say goodbye to long-time friends as they grow out of us and move on to "BIG" school.  We wish them the very best and pray they will make great new friendships that will last, and that they will be the best they can be in their future learning and development!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALLIE MATHEWS!  She is turning four on Tuesday!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!!!  We had a position open on last Monday and had it filled on Tuesday.  CONGRATULATIONS to the Bennett Family for a free week of childcare!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW STUDENT!  Olivia Fludd is 2-1/2 years old so she will fit right in with all our current 2-1/2 - 3 year old little girls.  We are very excited to have a new family joining our playhouse.

HOT WEATHER!!!!  Please be careful with your children in hot weather.  They can dehydrate very quickly and body temperature can quickly reach dangerous levels.  Our policy is to not go out in temperatures above 92 *F unless we are having a water play day.  Even then we make sure the children are having lots of water breaks and staying hydrated.

I AM SO SAD TO ANNOUNCE THAT REESE LEE WILL BE LEAVING OUR CLASSROOM IN TWO WEEKS!  She will need to be at a more convenient location due to job changes in her family to another city.  We are all going to miss our sweet little friend!

THANKS TEACHERS AND PARENTS FOR SHARING ME WITH MY FAMILY THIS PAST WEEK.  I am excited to be returning home to my routines.  I have heard great things about your children this past week and all the fun "Dairy" activities they have been doing and learning about.  (June is National Dairy Month).  If possible, this would be a good time to take your children to Purity Dairy Factory or one of our local dairy farms so they can see "milk" in action and all the other things that happen at the dairy farm.  Thank you Mrs. Emily and Miss Christina for all your hard work this week and managing well without me!

Remember to apply an all-day suntan lotion on your child before arriving for the day if you wish your child to be protected.  We stay outside no longer than 1 hour or less if the weather is too hot!  The children also wear a protective sunhat to cover their head and face.

PLEASE NOTE!  Due to restructuring of business accounts at my bank, I will no longer be able to accept a check unless it is made out to me personally (Anne Swaim).  I will not be able to take checks made out to "Annie's Playhouse, etc.  They have cancelled their current business accounts to create a new structure which does not benefit me or the business in any way, so I was advised to keep my account the way it is currently set-up.
