ANNIE'S PLAYHOUSE Where Children Play to Learn

Anne M. Swaim (Mrs. Annie)

Owner/Director/Preschool Teacher

Mrs. Annie grew up in South Louisiana and learned early on that she had a passion for child development and learning.  When she was just 10 years old, she would read to children that she babysat, often animating vocally each character's voice in the story and enjoying the look on the children's faces as she read.

Mrs. Annie graduated from High School as an honor student and went on to college at Southeastern Louisiana University majoring in Music Education.  Mrs. Annie graduated cum laude from MTSU with a degree in Music Education.  After teaching K-8 Music for a few years, she soon realized that her true love was working in the classroom with the youngest children (K-2) and enjoyed integrating their general curriculum with the music she was teaching and noticed how quickly and easily they learned through music.  It was the following summer that Mrs. Annie realized that she wanted to open up a small, home child care where children could benefit from quality care involving music expertise from the earliest of ages (6 weeks to school-age) when the most crucial and important learning begins and becomes "set in stone."

Mrs. Annie opened Annie's Playhouse in August 2001 and became state-licensed in January 2005.  Since then, Annie's Playhouse has held the highest rating for quality child care in Tennessee.

Mrs. Annie has been married to Eddie Swaim for 35 years.   They have four children of their own (Ages 33, 31, 27, and 25) and one daughter-in-law and son-in-law.  She and Eddie also have two grandsons, Zachary, who is eleven years old, Carter, who is 2 years old, and one granddaughter, Alyssa, born on Valentine's Day 2011.  They are members of Calvary Baptist Church of Murfreesboro and active members of The Well, Come As You Are church, a missions church in inner-city Murfreesboro.

Mrs. Annie rejoices in being a "grand-ma-maw," enjoys reading (when she has time), enjoys playing golf with husband and friends, loves music and sings soprano in the praise band at her church, loves to cook (and eat), and most of all loves children and their passion for learning.

Christina Elizabeth Swaim

Infant/Toddler Teacher

Christina is the youngest daughter of Eddie and Anne Swaim, Owners of Annie's Playhouse.  She has a year of college toward a fine arts degree but is currently working full-time as she allows herself time to figure out what God's Will is for her life.  She is very loving, nurturing, and positive with all the children.  She is a natural for understanding children's developmental stages and catering to each one's individual needs from day to day.  If she notices a child struggling with language or math, she will play with that child and formulate games, songs, etc. to help that child where help is needed.  She also is very perceptive to children's emotional needs and helps them to solve conflicts and gives them play strategies that address their needs while also building a healthy self-esteem.  She adds a genuine warmth and caring nature to our playhouse.

Christina has a love for drawing, creating and design and also loves cooking in the kitchen with her mom.  She has great ideas for crafts and art.  She is currently considering returning to school at MTSU part-time this coming Fall (mostly night classes).
